Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
Συνεισφορά από: Mona
Perpendicular Lines:   two lines that meet at 90angles.
Their slopes have a product of -1.
Parallel lines: two lines that never intersect.
They have the same slopes, but different y int.
Perpendicular Lines:   two lines that meet at 90angles.
Their slopes have a product of                    .
Parallel lines: two lines that never intersect.
They have the                  slopes, but different y int.
Write an equation of the line that is perpendicular to
y = 3x+ 6 and goes through the point ( 2, 10).
First find the slope of the equation.
m= 3.  Since the line is perpendicualr, the slope of our
new line will be       .
M =
Write an equation of the line that is perpendicular to
y = 3x+ 6 and goes through the point ( 2, 10).
Watch your x, and y's!
Now that we know the slope is -1/3, plug the
slope and point into the point slope formula.

(y -            )=           (x  -       )
Write an equation of the line that is perpendicular to
y = 3x+ 6 and goes through the point ( 2, 10) in slope
intercept form.
Distribute the -1/3.
y- 10 = -1/3 x + 2/3.
Now add 10 to both sides.
y=            x + 10
y - 10 = -1/3(x-2)
First find the slope of the equation.
m= 3.  Since the line is parallel, our new line will
 have the                       slope.
Now using the point slope formula,
plug in your slope and the point.
Write an equation of the line that is parallel to
y = 3x+ 6 and goes through the point ( 2, 10).
(y -            )=           (x  -       )
Combine like terms to get:
Now using the point slope form of y-10 = 3(x-2).
 Distribute the 3.
