Standard form of a polynomial is ordering all terms
from the highest degree (power) to the lowest degree.
Which polynomial is in standard form?
    x13 + 5x - 34 + 2x
    x13 - 3x7 + 5x6 - 8
    x1+ 5x8  + 7x2 - x6
x7 + 5x4  + 7x   - x2 + 8
Fill in the missing exponent so that
the polynomial will be in standard form.
(+)
3x2 + 6x + 2
When Combining Polynomials, ONLY the coefficient (number in front) changes !!!
4x2 + 3x + 5
  x2 +   x +
(+)
4x2 + 4x  – 2
When Combining Polynomials, ONLY the coefficient (number in front) changes !!!
5x2 - 2x  + 9
  x2 +   x +
(+)
4x2 - 5x   +4
5x2 - 3x   - 9
  x2       x     5
The terms in the POLYNOMIAL SUM
must be connected by + or – signs.
(-4x3 + 2x - 8) + (8x3 - 8x2 + x + 5)
Write the simplified expression in standard form.
operation symbols
Simplify and write the simplified expression in standard form.
(-4x3 + 2x - 8) - (8x3 - 8x2 + x + 5)
   -4x3 + 2x - 8       8x3      8x2      x      5
First, change the sign of each term in the second expression:
